CPA Member of the Month! This month's CPA spotlight shines on Dr. Kathleen Ashton! Dr. Ashton is a health psychologist at the Cleveland Clinic Bariatric and Metabolic Institute and has presented nationally at the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the International Eating Disorders Conference. Dr. Ashton’s clinical and research interests include binge eating disorder, bariatric surgery evaluation and perioperative treatment, and weight management. Since beginning her involvement in CPA in 2005, Dr. Ashton has served in numerous leadership positions and roles in both CPA and OPA, including Past President of the Cleveland Psychological Association. She is the 2012-2013 President Elect for the Ohio Psychological Association! One of the goals that Dr. Ashton has set for her presidency is “to increase communication between OPA leadership and the membership about issues that affect all psychologists in Ohio. Healthcare reform, changes in legislation, and changes in the profession itself are important for all Ohio psychologists to be aware of and to have a voice in.” Dr. Ashton was a great role model to have as a supervisor during my fellowship; she has perfected the art of work/life balance! In addition to devoting great deal of time and energy to her involvement in CPA and OPA, Dr. Ashton enjoys spending her free time with her 3 children, Emma, Lucy, and Ryan. Somehow, she also finds the time for running, as she is currently training for a 5K! Great job Dr. Ashton, you are an inspiration to me and many early career psychologists! by Dr. Michelle Drerup
